Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what personal information Countertop Installers handles, how we use it, and the choices you have. Countertop Installers is a directory of Greater Toronto Area countertop installation companies and stone fabricators, and is operated from Ontario, Canada. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Effective date: August 2, 2026.
What information does Countertop Installers collect?
Very little. Countertop Installers is mostly a directory you read. There is one optional quote form on /quote/, no separate contact form, no sign-up and no account. If you use the quote form, we collect your name, phone number, postal code, the details you tap or type about the job, and optionally your email. If you email corrections@countertopinstallers.ca instead, we hold that email and whatever you chose to put in it. Our host, Vercel, also keeps standard server logs, including your IP address and browser type, to keep the site online and secure, and Google Analytics counts your visit as described below. Please do not send us sensitive information such as financial account numbers.
How does Countertop Installers use it?
An email you send us is used only to answer you. What you submit through the quote form is used to pass your job to one company, as described in the next section. We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we share nothing with the businesses listed on this site beyond what the quote form is for. Server logs are used only for security, troubleshooting and preventing abuse.
Does Countertop Installers contact the businesses on your behalf?
It depends how you reach out. A company that has claimed its listing publishes its own confirmed phone number and website on its profile; when you call that number or open that link, you are dealing with the business directly and we are not part of the conversation and never see it.
The quote form works differently, and only when you use it. If you fill it in, we pass your name, contact details and description of the job to one company listed in your area, so it can quote the work: one company, never a list, and never a pool of firms bidding against each other for you. The form will not send until you tick the box that says so, and that tick is recorded with the date and the exact sentence you agreed to. If you change your mind afterwards, write to us and we will delete what you sent. Nothing else about you goes anywhere, and reading this site sends nobody anything.
Does Countertop Installers use cookies or analytics?
Yes, one: Google Analytics 4, added on 19 August 2026. It counts visits so the Slab Desk can see which pages people actually read and which are dead weight. It sets two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_G-7RCTPCFXC2, which last two years and hold a random number that tells one browser apart from another. It reports which pages you open, the site you arrived from, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, and rough device details. It is not used to work out who you are, nothing on this site asks for your name, and we never match an analytics record to a person or sell what it collects. There are no advertising pixels and no cross-site trackers.
To opt out, install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, turn on your browser's tracking protection, or block cookies for this site. The pages work exactly the same either way. Until 19 August 2026 this page said the site ran no analytics and promised to update the policy before adding any. The tag went on first and this page followed a day later, so that promise was not kept; the sentence is gone rather than left standing as though it had been.
How does Countertop Installers handle business listing data?
Our directory lists countertop installation and stone fabrication businesses using public information, such as company names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings, review text and photos sourced from Google Maps and from the companies' own websites. Most of that is business data rather than personal data. Review excerpts are the exception: Google publishes them under a reviewer's display name, and this site reproduces both the name and the words. If a review here quotes you and you want your name or the excerpt taken down, ask and it comes down. If you own a listed business you can have a review excerpt, a photo, a single detail or the entire listing corrected or removed, and you do not have to give a reason for any of it. Write to corrections@countertopinstallers.ca and name the page. Removal requests are handled ahead of everything else, and the contact page explains what to include.
What are your privacy rights under PIPEDA?
Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information Countertop Installersholds about you, request a copy, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to our use of it. In practice this site holds very little about you: there is no account to create and no form to fill in, so what exists is your entry in the host's server log, the Google Analytics record of the visit described above, and any email you chose to send. Use corrections@countertopinstallers.ca to exercise any of these rights.
How does Countertop Installers comply with CASL?
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) governs commercial email. Countertop Installers sends no marketing email, no newsletters and no promotional blasts. The only mail this site sends is a reply to someone who wrote to it first. If optional marketing email ever appears here it will be strictly opt-in with a clear unsubscribe link in every message, as CASL requires.
How does Countertop Installers store and retain data?
Email sent to corrections@countertopinstallers.cadoes not land on a machine we own. It is routed by Forward Email, the service that handles mail for this domain, and delivered into a mailbox hosted by Google, so both of those companies hold a copy of whatever you wrote, outside Canada. We keep it only as long as it takes to deal with the request and any follow-up, then delete it. The listing dataset stays up for as long as this directory is published, or until a business asks for its record to come down. The Google Analytics record stays inside Google, under the data-retention period set on this site's Analytics property, and nothing is exported out of it to be held here. Request logs are written and kept by the host on its own schedule, which we do not set.
This site is served by Vercel on its global network, so the machine that answers you and writes that log line is whichever one sits nearest to you: in Canada, in the United States, or in another country if you are reading from one. Analytics data is processed by Google in the United States. So your information can be stored outside Canada. Canadian law still applies to how we handle it, and a foreign court or government can reach data held on its own soil.
How do I contact Countertop Installers about privacy?
Privacy questions go to corrections@countertopinstallers.ca, the same address as everything else, which is also on the contact page. Material changes to this policy are posted here with a new effective date. Please also review our terms of service, which govern your use of Countertop Installers.
