Quartz countertop cost calculator for Toronto and the GTA
Last updated: By The Slab Desk
Granite is priced by the slab because every slab is different. Quartz is manufactured, so what a showroom is really selling you is a brand and a warranty, and the quote moves in four visible steps rather than smoothly. Pick the step, enter the area, and this shows you what the material costs, what the work costs, and what the extras add.
Which quartz, and how much of it?
40 sq ft of b-grade quartz, before tax
$3,850 to $5,050
$4,351 to $5,707 once 13% HST is on, which works out at $96 to $126 per square foot before tax.
- Quartz supplied, templated, fabricated and installed$85 to $105 per sq ft installed (CAD) x 40, as published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA quartz pricing guide)
- $3,400 to $4,200
- Undermount sink cut-out$250 to $350 per cut-out (CAD) x 1, as published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide)
- $250 to $350
- Tearing out and disposing of the old countertop$200 to $500 per removal (CAD), as published by Josh Kitchen (Toronto countertop replacement guide)
- $200 to $500
- 13% HST
- $501 to $657
The same area in raw slab
$1,600 to $2,400
$40 to $60 per sq ft, material only, as published by Natural Stone City (Southern Ontario, 2026 guide). Most of what you pay for quartz is the templating, the cutting and the fitting, not the stone.
Maintenance, forever
$0
Quartz is non-porous. There is no sealer, so there is no resealing visit and no recurring line at all. On granite that same line is a real cost every few years, and it is the clearest financial difference between the two.
Cross-check: $2,400 to $4,500
Ikonyx Surfaces (Toronto quartz countertop cost guide) publishes $2,400 to $4,500 all-in for a standard Toronto kitchen at about 40 sq ft. That is an entirely separate figure from the per-square-foot arithmetic above, so comparing the two is a real check rather than a restatement. If your number sits far outside it, the area is the first thing to re-measure.
Not in here: how many seams your run forces, whether a slab fits through your door, plumbing disconnect and reconnect, and a shop minimum on a small job. Quartz is also not UV stable, so a run in strong unshaded sun is a question for the manufacturer before it is a question of price.
What the arithmetic does, and the one thing it deliberately shows twice
Area times the tier rate, plus each extra times its own count, plus 13% HST. The four tier rates come from a brand table Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA quartz pricing guide)publishes for the Toronto market, which splits it into exactly these steps; the slab, waterfall, edge and cut-out figures come from the same researched quartz file behind this site's quartz cost guide, and the tear-out line from the general installation file. Collected August 2026.
The material figure is shown next to the installed one on purpose. Quartz slab alone is $40 to $60 per square foot, while the installed rate starts near $50 and reaches $180. Seeing both at once answers the question people actually have in a showroom, which is not "what does stone cost" but "what am I paying all this money for". The answer is templating, cutting, polishing, cut-outs and carrying several hundred kilograms into a finished kitchen without breaking it.
The cross-check at the bottom of the result is a genuinely independent number. Two whole-project totals are published for the GTA, one for a 40 square foot kitchen and one for 50 square feet and up with an island, and neither was derived from the per-square-foot rates above. Comparing the two is therefore a real test rather than a restatement, and an estimate that lands far outside usually means the area was measured wrong rather than that the kitchen is unusual.

Frequently asked questions
How much do quartz countertops cost in Toronto?
- The GTA market moves in visible steps rather than smoothly, and this calculator uses one company's published steps rather than blending several. Sultan Stone puts entry-level projects at $50 to $60 per square foot installed. Stone Valley Countertops publishes three grades above that: A-grade at $65 to $85, B-grade at $85 to $105, and premium or luxury at $110 to $180 or more. Ikonyx Surfaces separately publishes whole-kitchen totals of $2,400 to $4,500 at 30 square feet and $4,000 to $7,500 at 50 square feet, which this page uses as a cross-check rather than as a line item.
What does paying for a premium quartz brand actually buy me?
- Mostly a colour you cannot get otherwise and a longer warranty. Quartz is engineered, so on the physical spec sheet a budget import and a premium series are far closer than the price gap suggests: both are roughly nine parts ground stone to one part resin, both are non-porous, both dislike heat for the same reason. What genuinely differs is the design range, the consistency of the pattern from slab to slab, the warranty terms, and how easily your fabricator can get a replacement slab if something goes wrong halfway through. Those are real, but they are not durability, and a showroom that sells the gap as durability is overselling it.
Why is installed quartz so much more than the slab costs?
- Because most of what you are buying is work, not stone. Quartz slab material alone runs $40 to $60 per square foot in Southern Ontario, while the installed rate starts around $50 and reaches $150. Everything in between is templating your kitchen, cutting the slab to that template, polishing every exposed edge, cutting the sink and cooktop openings, and getting several hundred kilograms of stone into your kitchen without damaging it or anybody. This calculator shows both figures side by side for exactly that reason.
Does quartz ever need sealing?
- No, and that is the single clearest financial difference between quartz and granite. Quartz is non-porous, so there is nothing for a sealer to do and nothing for a spill to soak into. There is no resealing visit, no recurring cost, and no interval to remember. On granite, professional resealing is a real line item every few years. The trade is heat: the resin binder in quartz is what a hot pan damages, and unlike a sealing schedule that is not something you can catch up on later.
How much does a waterfall end add to a quartz island?
- Between $900 and $1,800 a side on the GTA figure this calculator uses, and a second Canadian source quotes up to $2,500. It is expensive because it is not a panel stuck on: it is a second piece of the same slab, mitred at 45 degrees so the pattern carries around the corner with no visible joint, cut on stone that is already sized with no second chance. It also eats slab area that would otherwise have been counter, which is why it can push a kitchen into needing an extra slab.
Is the sink cut-out included?
- Sometimes, and it is worth pinning down in writing. Some GTA shops fold the first undermount cut-out into the installed rate and bill anything beyond it; others bill every one. The researched GTA figure is $250 to $350 per cut-out. Countertop Installers counts every cut-out here rather than assuming one is free, because an estimate that quietly assumes the generous version of a shop policy is the kind that gets a homeowner surprised at the deposit stage.
