How Much Does a Laminate Countertop Cost in Toronto in 2026?

Last updated: By The Slab Desk

Laminate countertops in the Toronto area run $23 to $26 per sq ft, as published by Home Depot Canada, Cost to Install a Kitchen Countertop (Ontario pricing). A stock post-formed top with an integrated backsplash is the cheapest route. Custom sheet laminate over a built substrate, a decorative edge instead of a plain self-edge, and a premium pattern all push it up. Cut-outs, end caps and delivery are usually line items. Laminate takes a drop-in sink, and most laminate tops cannot carry an undermount one.

What does laminate cost per square foot installed?

These are not Countertop Installers estimates and they are not a market survey. Every range below rests on 8 independent companies publishing prices on 8 of their own pages, read off those pages in August 2026: Home Depot Canada, Toronto General Contractors, Deslaurier Custom Cabinets, Ikonyx Surfaces, Natural Stone City, Stone Masters, Zen Living, The Bevelled Edge. Most are GTA fabricators and suppliers, and several are listed in this directory. Read each one as what that company advertises, not as what a job settles at: an advertised range is written to win the work, a real quote is measured on site. Where two companies disagree, each range is published under its own company's name rather than merged into a wider band neither of them quotes.

How far apart are the companies?

Far enough that a reader with two quotes should not assume one of them is wrong. The drawing below is the same rows as the table above, one axis per unit, so a square-foot rate is never set against a per cut-out fee. Each bar runs from the low figure that company advertises to its high figure, and the bar is drawn from those two numbers and nothing else.

Every published range on this page that has two closed ends, grouped by the exact unit its own source priced it in. Read off 8 companies' own pages in August 2026.

4 published figures, per sq ft (CAD)

  • Laminate countertop, Ontario material comparison$20–$50

Published by Natural Stone City (Ontario countertop cost guide, 2026). Natural Stone City calls laminate the most budget-friendly option and states it can be damaged by heat or heavy impact. An Ontario-wide figure rather than a Toronto one.

  • Laminate countertop installed by a pro (Ontario pricing, taxes excluded)$23–$26

Published by Home Depot Canada, Cost to Install a Kitchen Countertop (Ontario pricing). Home Depot Canada's installed rate, tax excluded, from the same table that gives $14 to $20 supply only. It is a national retail programme price, not a Toronto fabricator's.

  • Custom laminate countertop, material only, Toronto renovation quotes$24–$36

Published by Toronto General Contractors, What Is the Cost of Kitchen Countertops in Toronto (published 17 Nov 2025). Material only. Toronto General Contractors calls laminate one of the most budget-friendly options for Toronto renovations. Note this is the identical band Deslaurier publishes, listed separately below, so the two are not independent confirmation of each other.

  • Custom laminate countertop, Ontario cabinet maker's published range$24–$36

Published by Deslaurier Custom Cabinets (Ontario countertop price comparison). Deslaurier calls laminate by far the most affordable countertop material on its list and notes home improvement stores also sell prefabricated pieces. The band is identical to Toronto General Contractors' above.

4 published figures, per sq ft installed (CAD)

  • Laminate countertop including installation (Toronto budget remodel)$10–$40

Published by Stone Masters (Toronto, budget countertop guide). Stone Masters states this includes installation charges, which is why it sits below the material-only numbers above it. It is the lowest figure any company on this page publishes.

  • Laminate countertop, supplied and installed (Toronto supplier)$20–$50

Published by Ikonyx Surfaces (Toronto kitchen countertop costs). Ikonyx states this is installed and rates maintenance as low. It also warns laminate is less durable than the alternatives and prone to scratches and burns.

  • Laminate countertop, supplied and installed (Calgary benchmark)$40–$80

Published by Zen Living (Calgary countertop replacement guide, 2025). Zen Living is a CALGARY company and this is a Calgary figure, not a GTA one. It is the highest laminate number on this page by a wide margin, which is worth knowing before treating any single source as the market.

  • Quartz countertop, for comparison (same retailer, same table)$57–$130

Published by Home Depot Canada (cost to install a kitchen countertop). Silestone quartz from the same Home Depot Canada table that prices laminate at $23 to $26 installed, so the two are directly comparable. This row previously published a $23 to $130 span that merged the cheapest laminate with the dearest quartz into one range describing no product at all.

2 rows in the table are not drawn above. Each is the only figure on this page priced that way, so there is nothing on the same unit to set them against, and one bar alone on an axis says less than the row already does.

Why two laminate quotes are not the same quote

Laminate has the widest spread on this site relative to its own price, and almost none of it is about the material. It is about which of these five things a quote includes. This is what to check, line by line, against a number you have been given.
  1. Supply only, or fitted

The first thing to establish, and the one that explains most of the gap between two numbers. The same national retailer publishes both figures for the same material in one table, so the fitting can be read straight off its own numbers.

    • $14–$20 per sq ft, supply only (CAD), Laminate countertop, supply only (Canada), published by Home Depot Canada (cost to install a kitchen countertop)
    • $23–$26 per sq ft (CAD), Laminate countertop installed by a pro (Ontario pricing, taxes excluded), published by Home Depot Canada, Cost to Install a Kitchen Countertop (Ontario pricing)
  2. Stock length, or custom

Stock tops ship as fixed-length pieces at a standard depth, so a run that needs an odd length either wastes material or has to be made. A custom top is quoted from a starting price and carries a lead time of weeks.

    • $34 per sq ft, starting price (CAD), Custom laminate countertop, Ontario fabricator's starting price, published by The Bevelled Edge (custom laminate countertops)
  3. Who is quoting

Not the material, the seller. The published installed rates on this page run from a Toronto budget remodeller's figure to a Calgary company's, and that spread is wider than any pattern upgrade.

    • $10–$40 per sq ft installed (CAD), Laminate countertop including installation (Toronto budget remodel), published by Stone Masters (Toronto, budget countertop guide)
    • $20–$50 per sq ft installed (CAD), Laminate countertop, supplied and installed (Toronto supplier), published by Ikonyx Surfaces (Toronto kitchen countertop costs)
    • $40–$80 per sq ft installed (CAD), Laminate countertop, supplied and installed (Calgary benchmark), published by Zen Living (Calgary countertop replacement guide, 2025)
  4. The edge and the wall joint

A post-formed moulded edge carries the laminate round the front and up into an integrated backsplash, removing the seam where the counter meets the wall. That seam is where laminate usually fails, so this is a durability decision, not a styling one.

None of the companies on this page prices the post-formed profile separately. It is a property of the piece you buy rather than a line on the quote.

  5. Openings, and the old top

The national programme includes cut-outs for one sink and one faucet and supplies neither, and it charges for taking the old countertop away. Both are easy to read as included and neither is.

    • $24–$36 per sq ft (CAD), Custom laminate countertop, material only, Toronto renovation quotes, published by Toronto General Contractors, What Is the Cost of Kitchen Countertops in Toronto (published 17 Nov 2025)
    • $24–$36 per sq ft (CAD), Custom laminate countertop, Ontario cabinet maker's published range, published by Deslaurier Custom Cabinets (Ontario countertop price comparison)
  6. What the same retailer charges for stone

The number that puts the rest in proportion. It comes from the same table, from the same company, on the same day, so the multiple is real rather than assembled from two sources.

    • $57–$130 per sq ft installed (CAD), Quartz countertop, for comparison (same retailer, same table), published by Home Depot Canada (cost to install a kitchen countertop)

What drives the price?

Scope drives it more than material does. The list below is ordered by how much each one moves a laminate countertop quote in Toronto, and every line names the company that published the figure beside it, so you can read a quote and see where the money goes.

  • Whether the quote is supply only or installed: Home Depot Canada publishes $14-$20 per sq ft supply only and $23-$26 installed for the same material, so the fitting is roughly $6-$9 per sq ft on its own numbers
  • Stock versus custom fabrication: The Bevelled Edge starts custom laminate at $34 per sq ft with a 2-4 week lead time, against $14-$20 supply only for a stock piece
  • Who is quoting: the published installed figures for the same material run from $10-$40 (Stone Masters, Toronto) to $40-$80 (Zen Living, Calgary)
  • Run length and layout: stock tops ship as fixed-length pieces at a standard depth, so a run that needs an odd length either wastes material or needs a custom top
  • Pattern tier: stone-look patterns cost more than plain ones, though the premium is small compared with the stone being imitated
  • Edge profile: a post-formed moulded edge with an integrated backsplash removes the seam where the counter meets the wall, which is where laminate usually fails
  • Removal and disposal of the old top: Home Depot Canada states this is available for an additional charge, not included
  • Cut-outs beyond the first: Home Depot Canada includes cut-outs for one sink and one faucet in its installed price, and does not include the sink or faucet themselves

What's specific to Ontario and Toronto?

Ontario rules and Toronto's climate change the math in ways national price guides miss. Here is what applies locally, from HST to permits to freeze-thaw.

  • Ontario charges 13 percent HST, made up of the 5 percent federal GST and the 8 percent provincial portion. Home Depot Canada's countertop pricing explicitly excludes taxes, so a $1,150 laminate kitchen becomes about $1,300 paid. Always confirm whether a contractor quote is HST included or HST extra before comparing two bids.
  • The stock laminate you can actually buy in Ontario is largely Belanger, a Canadian manufacturer whose tops Home Depot Canada lists as made in Canada. Arborite, the other name Toronto shops quote, was established in Canada in 1948 and is still designed in Montreal, and lists over 250 patterns and woodgrains. Note that this guide no longer quotes individual retail prices: Home Depot Canada serves its product prices to the browser rather than to the page, and RONA, Home Hardware and IKEA Canada would not serve live prices to an automated check either.
  • GTA installation labour is not billed as a separate line by the big retailers, so you have to back it out. Home Depot Canada quotes laminate at $14 to $20 per square foot supply only and $23 to $26 installed, which implies $6 to $9 per square foot for labour and related materials. That is low against what GTA renovation contractors quote, and the gap is mostly tear-out, disposal and plumbing reconnection, which Home Depot Canada charges separately.
  • Rental units and secondary suites are where laminate volume sits in the GTA. At $23 to $26 per square foot installed, a 40 to 55 square foot kitchen is roughly $920 to $1,430 before HST. Against Tec Corp Stone's $2,800 to $4,500 for a small condo kitchen in stone, laminate is often the only option that keeps a tenant turnover economically sensible. Home Depot Canada also markets laminate as its most do-it-yourself-friendly surface, which matters when there is no trades crew booked.
  • Water at the seams and around the sink is what actually kills a laminate top. A post-formed top with an integrated backsplash exists specifically to remove the seam where the counter meets the wall, and an ABS edgeband is sealed to block water infiltration at the front edge. In a GTA kitchen the sink cut-out and the mitred corner joint are the two spots to inspect first, and they are the two places a cheap install shows up two winters later.

How can I pay less?

You can keep laminate countertop costs down without cutting the parts that matter. These are the levers GTA homeowners actually use, each tied to a real number above.

  • Decide supply-only versus installed before you shop. Home Depot Canada's own numbers put the fitting at roughly $6 to $9 per square foot, or about $280 to $420 on a 47 square foot kitchen. If the layout is a straight run, that is the single largest saving available on this material.
  • Get more than one installed quote, because the published spread is enormous. Stone Masters in Toronto publishes $10 to $40 per square foot including installation and Ikonyx publishes $20 to $50. On a 47 square foot kitchen the difference between the bottom and the top of just those two is over $1,800.
  • Do not assume custom is the upgrade. The Bevelled Edge starts custom laminate at $34 per square foot, above Home Depot Canada's $23 to $26 installed, and adds a 2 to 4 week lead time. Custom buys you an exact length and a specific sheet, not a better surface.
  • Reuse the sink and faucet. Home Depot Canada includes cut-outs for one sink and one faucet in the install price but not the fixtures themselves.
  • Take the old top out yourself where you safely can. Home Depot Canada states removal and disposal of the existing countertop is an additional charge, and on a job that only costs $920 to $1,430 in the first place, an avoidable extra is a large share of the total.
  • Get a real quartz quote before assuming laminate always wins. Home Depot Canada's own table puts laminate at $23 to $26 per square foot installed against Silestone quartz at $57 to $130. On a small 25 square foot condo counter the gap is roughly $800 to $2,600, not the many thousands people expect.

Where do these numbers come from?

From 8 companies' own published pages, and nowhere else. Countertop Installersdid not survey anyone and did not model, average or interpolate a single figure. Every price above was read off a named company's page in August 2026, is reproduced with that company named beside it, and carries the caveat that company attached to it. Several of those companies compete with each other and are listed in this directory, so no single one of these ranges is the market rate. Here is what reconciling them turned up.

  • Laminate is the bottom rung of the countertop market and the gap is not small. Home Depot Canada's own table puts laminate at $23 to $26 per sq ft installed against $51 to $99 for solid surface, $51 to $114 for granite, marble and quartzite, $57 to $130 for Silestone quartz and $81 to $149 for Dekton. The same page pegs the average Canadian countertop job at $2,400 for a 28 square foot countertop, tax excluded. Laminate is the only material on that list that keeps a whole kitchen under four figures.
  • Toronto and Canadian companies disagree sharply on the installed number, and this guide names all of them rather than picking a winner. Home Depot Canada says $23 to $26 per sq ft installed. Stone Masters in Toronto says $10 to $40 including installation. Ikonyx in Toronto says $20 to $50 installed. Natural Stone City says $20 to $50 across Ontario. Toronto General Contractors and Deslaurier both say $24 to $36 material only, in identical words, so treat those two as one figure rather than two. Zen Living in Calgary is the outlier at $40 to $80 installed. The published span is $10 to $80 per sq ft and the band where most of them sit is $20 to $50.
  • Two of those sources are not independent of each other, and it matters. Toronto General Contractors publishes $24 to $36 per square foot for laminate materials, and Deslaurier, an Ontario cabinet maker, publishes $24 to $36 per sq ft for custom laminate. Identical band, identical framing. A reader counting six sources on this page is really counting five.
  • Custom laminate is a different purchase from stock. The Bevelled Edge prices custom laminate from $34 per sq ft with a 2 to 4 week lead time and runs three price levels above that starting point, regular, special and ultra, none of which it publishes. So a custom laminate job in the GTA can only be priced by getting quotes; the $34 is a floor, not a range.
  • Eleven Home Depot Canada product prices were removed from this page in August 2026. This guide used to quote individual stock tops by name and length, and derive a per-linear-foot rate from them. Home Depot Canada loads its product prices in the browser rather than in the page itself, so none of those figures is present in the document the price was attributed to and none of them can be re-checked from the source. They came out. Home Depot Canada's own cost guide table, which does state its numbers in the page, is what remains.
  • What laminate actually is, in Canada, is largely Belanger and Arborite. Belanger is a Canadian manufacturer whose tops Home Depot Canada lists as made in Canada. Arborite was established in Canada in 1948, is still designed in Montreal, and lists over 250 patterns and woodgrains. The current stock-top pitch is stone-look: quartz, marble and concrete patterns with a full-wrap edge that hides the substrate seam. The pattern premium is real but small next to the material it imitates.

What does the work look like?

Like this. Every photograph below was taken by the shop under it, of a job that shop did, and it links through to that shop's profile. Countertop Installers holds 3,205 of these across 869 businesses and took none of them. A finished edge, a seam you can or cannot see, and how a slab meets a cabinet run are the things a quote is actually about, and they are quicker to judge in a photograph than in a paragraph.

Can I work it out for my own kitchen?

What do the terms on a countertop quote mean?

These are the words that decide what a number covers. Each one is defined here because this guide uses it above, not because a glossary needs filling.

Undermount cut-out
An opening cut so the sink hangs below the surface rather than sitting on it. The cut edge stays visible, so it is polished as a separate charge, which is why undermount costs more than a drop-in.
Supplied versus installed
The first question to ask of any countertop price. A supplied figure is the material delivered and nothing else; an installed figure covers templating, fabrication and fitting as well. The two are quoted in the same units and the same currency and routinely differ by more than any upgrade on the job, which is why two quotes on one kitchen can look thousands apart while describing identical work.
Post-formed top
A stock countertop pressed in one piece so the surface wraps around a rolled front edge and turns up into an integrated backsplash. It removes the joint where the counter meets the wall, which is where a laminate top usually fails first, and it is why a stock piece can outlast a cut-and-fitted one at the sink.

Which other cost guides should I read next?

These three quote the most fabricators in common with this page, so they are the ones that let you check a number against a second material or a second scope.

Or read it against one other material at a time. One comparison on this site reads the same price rows as this guide and sets them line by line against another material: laminate vs quartz countertops.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a laminate countertop cost in Toronto in 2026?

Six companies publish figures between $10 and $80 per square foot, and most of them sit at $20 to $50. Home Depot Canada quotes $23 to $26 per square foot installed and $14 to $20 supply only, which puts a 40 to 55 square foot kitchen at roughly $920 to $1,430 before HST. Stone Masters in Toronto quotes $10 to $40 including installation, Ikonyx $20 to $50 installed, and Toronto General Contractors $24 to $36 for material alone. Add 13 percent HST to whichever number you are given.

Why do the laminate figures on this page disagree so much?

Because they answer different questions. Home Depot Canada's $14 to $20 is supply only and its $23 to $26 is installed, from the same table. Toronto General Contractors' $24 to $36 is material only. Stone Masters' $10 to $40 includes installation. Zen Living's $40 to $80 is a Calgary installed price. Before comparing any two, check whether the number includes fitting, tear-out and disposal, because on a material this cheap the labour is a large fraction of the total.

How much cheaper is laminate than quartz in Ontario?

Home Depot Canada's table puts laminate at $23 to $26 per square foot installed and Silestone quartz at $57 to $130, in the same table on the same page. On a 47 square foot kitchen that is roughly $1,150 for laminate against $2,700 to $6,100 for quartz. Granite, marble and quartzite land at $51 to $114 per square foot and Dekton at $81 to $149, so laminate is between two and five times cheaper than every hard surface on that list.

Is custom laminate worth more than a stock top?

It costs more and it is slower. The Bevelled Edge starts custom laminate at $34 per square foot, above Home Depot Canada's $23 to $26 installed, with a 2 to 4 week lead time and three price levels above the starting point that it does not publish. What custom buys is an exact run length, a specific laminate sheet and an edge profile of your choosing. If a stock length fits your run, it is not an upgrade you need.

Why does this guide no longer list individual laminate countertop prices?

Because they could not be verified. This page used to quote about a dozen named Home Depot Canada stock tops by length and price, and derive a per-linear-foot rate from them. Home Depot Canada serves its product prices to the browser rather than putting them in the page, so none of those prices is present in the document each one was attributed to, and nobody, including us, could re-check them. They were removed rather than left standing. Home Depot Canada's cost guide table, which does state its numbers in the page itself, is still cited throughout.

Where does laminate actually fail, and what should I inspect?

Water at the seams and around the sink. A post-formed top with an integrated backsplash exists specifically to remove the seam where the counter meets the wall, and an ABS edgeband is sealed to block water infiltration at the front edge. The sink cut-out and the mitred corner joint are the two spots to look at first on any laminate top, new or old. Natural Stone City adds the other two limits plainly: laminate can be damaged by heat or heavy impact.

Questions to ask your installer

  • Is this a post-formed stock top or a custom sheet-laminated one? Post-formed vs custom pricing
  • Can my sink be undermounted, or does the core mean a drop-in?
  • How are the cut-out edges sealed against water?
  • Which laminate brand and finish, and is a matching backsplash included?
