How Much Does Stone Countertop Fabrication Cost in Toronto in 2026?

Last updated: By The Slab Desk

Stone fabrication in the Toronto area runs $50 to $100 per sq ft, as published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown). Fabrication covers digital templating, cutting the slab, profiling and polishing the edges, drilling faucet holes, and cutting openings for sinks and cooktops. A mitred edge that makes a slab look thicker, a book-matched seam and any curved cut are the expensive parts. Shops that let you supply your own slab usually charge a higher fabrication rate and set a minimum.

A long row of stone slabs stood on edge in an A-frame rack in a daylit fabrication shop, granites, marbles and engineered slabs seen down the row along their cut edges.

What does stone fabrication cost per square foot and per cut?

These are not Countertop Installers estimates and they are not a market survey. Every range below rests on 4 independent companies publishing prices on 4 of their own pages, read off those pages in August 2026: Better Marble, Stone Valley Countertops, Natural Stone City, Ottawa General Contractors. Most are GTA fabricators and suppliers, and several are listed in this directory. Read each one as what that company advertises, not as what a job settles at: an advertised range is written to win the work, a real quote is measured on site. Where two companies disagree, each range is published under its own company's name rather than merged into a wider band neither of them quotes.

Fabrication, cutting and shaping only (GTA fabricator's itemized line)Priced per linear foot of cutting and shaping, not per square foot, and billed separately from the $50 to $100 per sq ft installation line above it.$10–$40per linear ft (CAD)Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
Installed all-in price, quartz (fabrication bundled with the slab)Stone Valley's own answer to how much quartz costs per sq ft in Ontario, which it states as what most GTA homeowners pay fully installed. Fabrication is bundled into it rather than billed separately.$65–$120per sq ft installed (CAD)Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA)
Templating fee, when a shop bills it as its own line (most GTA shops bundle it)Natural Stone City says some shops charge this and most do not, so treat a templating line on a quote as a question to ask rather than a standard cost.$100–$300per job (CAD)Natural Stone City (Ontario, 2025 guide)
Standard edge profile, included or charged as an upgradeBetter Marble's table writes this line as included or $10 to $30 per foot, so a basic eased edge costs nothing and only the upgrade is charged. This row previously published a $0 to $0 range, which is not a price.$10–$30per linear ft (CAD), or includedBetter Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
Premium edge profile, ogee, mitred or waterfall (Ottawa benchmark)An OTTAWA figure, not a Toronto one, and the only readable Canadian source publishing a premium-edge rate. Ottawa General Contractors says a standard eased or bevelled edge is usually included in base pricing and only the premium profiles carry this charge.$20–$40per linear ft (CAD)Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025)
Mitred waterfall panel, per island sideStone Valley lists the standard eased edge as included and charges the mitred waterfall on top. This row previously published $900 to $2,500 by merging Stone Valley's band with a second company's, producing a range neither publishes.$900–$1,800per waterfall panel (CAD)Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide)
Cooktop cut-out (GTA fabricator)Per opening, from Stone Valley's fabrication options list, charged separately from the sink cut-out. This row previously published $125 to $450 by merging two companies' bands.$250–$450per cut-out (CAD)Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide)
Undermount sink cut-out (Ontario)Natural Stone City writes the top as $500+ and says it depends on complexity. It is the widest published Ontario band for a single opening, which is itself the useful fact.$150–$500per cut-out (CAD)Natural Stone City (Ontario countertop cost guide)
Sink or cooktop cut-out (Ottawa benchmark)An OTTAWA figure. Ottawa General Contractors prices sink and cooktop openings identically, which the GTA companies on this page do not: Stone Valley charges $250 to $350 for a sink and $250 to $450 for a cooktop.$250–$400per cut-out (CAD)Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025)
Quartz slab supply only, material before any fabricationSlab only, before templating, fabrication or installation. How far apart are the companies?

Far enough that a reader with two quotes should not assume one of them is wrong. The drawing below is the same rows as the table above, one axis per unit, so a square-foot rate is never set against a per cut-out fee. Each bar runs from the low figure that company advertises to its high figure, and the bar is drawn from those two numbers and nothing else.

Every published range on this page that has two closed ends, grouped by the exact unit its own source priced it in. Read off 4 companies' own pages in August 2026.

3 published figures, per cut-out (CAD)

  • Undermount sink cut-out (Ontario)$150–$500

Published by Natural Stone City (Ontario countertop cost guide). Natural Stone City writes the top as $500+ and says it depends on complexity. It is the widest published Ontario band for a single opening, which is itself the useful fact.

  • Sink or cooktop cut-out (Ottawa benchmark)$250–$400

Published by Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025). An OTTAWA figure. Ottawa General Contractors prices sink and cooktop openings identically, which the GTA companies on this page do not: Stone Valley charges $250 to $350 for a sink and $250 to $450 for a cooktop.

  • Cooktop cut-out (GTA fabricator)$250–$450

Published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide). Per opening, from Stone Valley's fabrication options list, charged separately from the sink cut-out. This row previously published $125 to $450 by merging two companies' bands.

2 published figures, per linear ft (CAD)

  • Fabrication, cutting and shaping only (GTA fabricator's itemized line)$10–$40

Published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown). Priced per linear foot of cutting and shaping, not per square foot, and billed separately from the $50 to $100 per sq ft installation line above it.

  • Premium edge profile, ogee, mitred or waterfall (Ottawa benchmark)$20–$40

Published by Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025). An OTTAWA figure, not a Toronto one, and the only readable Canadian source publishing a premium-edge rate. Ottawa General Contractors says a standard eased or bevelled edge is usually included in base pricing and only the premium profiles carry this charge.

6 rows in the table are not drawn above. Each is the only figure on this page priced that way, so there is nothing on the same unit to set them against, and one bar alone on an axis says less than the row already does.

An itemized fabrication quote, line by line

Most GTA shops bundle fabrication into one per square foot number. A few publish the lines separately, and this page collects them. Read down it with an itemized quote beside you: this is the order the lines appear on one, and the units are not all the same, which is the trap.
  1. The slab

Material before anyone touches it. On stone this is the biggest single line, larger than the shop time that follows it, which is the opposite of what most people expect.

    • $40–$60 per sq ft, material only (CAD), Quartz slab supply only, material before any fabrication, published by Natural Stone City (Ontario countertop cost guide)
  2. Template

Usually bundled. Where it does appear as its own line it is a whole job fee rather than a rate, and a templating line on a quote is a question to ask rather than a standard cost.

    • $100–$300 per job (CAD), Templating fee, when a shop bills it as its own line (most GTA shops bundle it), published by Natural Stone City (Ontario, 2025 guide)
  3. Cutting and shaping

Billed per linear foot of cutting, not per square foot of countertop. This is the unit trap on an itemized quote: this line and the installation line below are added together, never compared.

    • $10–$40 per linear ft (CAD), Fabrication, cutting and shaping only (GTA fabricator's itemized line), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  4. The edge

A basic eased edge costs nothing on the GTA table on this page. Only the upgrade is charged, by the foot along the front of the run, so a long kitchen pays more for the same decision.

    • $10–$30 per linear ft (CAD), or included, Standard edge profile, included or charged as an upgrade, published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
    • $20–$40 per linear ft (CAD), Premium edge profile, ogee, mitred or waterfall (Ottawa benchmark), published by Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025)
    • $900–$1,800 per waterfall panel (CAD), Mitred waterfall panel, per island side, published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide)
  5. The openings

One sink is normally included and each further opening is charged. The published bands for a single opening disagree more sharply than any other line on this page, and one source prices sink and cooktop identically where the GTA shops do not.

    • $150–$500 per cut-out (CAD), Undermount sink cut-out (Ontario), published by Natural Stone City (Ontario countertop cost guide)
    • $250–$450 per cut-out (CAD), Cooktop cut-out (GTA fabricator), published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA pricing guide)
    • $250–$400 per cut-out (CAD), Sink or cooktop cut-out (Ottawa benchmark), published by Ottawa General Contractors (Ottawa granite cost guide, October 2025)
  6. Installation, and the bundled alternative

The last itemized line, and beside it what the same work costs when a shop quotes everything above as one all-in rate. Comparing an itemized quote with a bundled one means adding the lines up first.

    • $50–$100 per sq ft (CAD), Installation labour only, stone countertop (GTA fabricator's itemized line), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
    • $65–$120 per sq ft installed (CAD), Installed all-in price, quartz (fabrication bundled with the slab), published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA)

What drives the price?

Scope drives it more than material does. The list below is ordered by how much each one moves a stone fabrication quote in Toronto, and every line names the company that published the figure beside it, so you can read a quote and see where the money goes.

  • Slab material, not shop time, is the biggest single driver: Better Marble puts a marble slab alone at $60-$250 per sq ft against $50-$100 per sq ft for installation labour
  • Edge profile: Better Marble lists a basic edge as included or $10-$30 per linear foot, and Ottawa General Contractors puts a premium ogee, mitred or waterfall profile at $20-$40 per linear foot
  • Waterfall panels: $900-$1,800 per island side at Stone Valley, because they need extra slab, grain matching and a precision mitred joint
  • Number of cut-outs: one sink is normally included, and each extra runs $150-$500 across Ontario (Natural Stone City) or $250-$350 at Stone Valley, with a cooktop cut-out $125-$150 at Home Depot Canada and $250-$450 at Stone Valley
  • Templating: usually bundled, but Natural Stone City says some shops charge $100-$300 for custom templates or specialized fabrication work
  • Layout and seams: straight runs fabricate cheapest, while L-shapes, corners, long spans and oversized islands add seam planning and handling. No Ontario source publishes a per-seam charge
  • Vein matching and bookmatching on marble-look slabs, which forces slab layout around the pattern and can force a second slab
  • Site access: condo elevators, corridor turns and unit entrances can force a planned seam or smaller sections, changing the whole fabrication layout (Tec Corp Stone)

What's specific to Ontario and Toronto?

Ontario rules and Toronto's climate change the math in ways national price guides miss. Here is what applies locally, from HST to permits to freeze-thaw.

  • Ontario HST is 13 percent. Fabrication quotes in the GTA are usually shown before tax, and Home Depot Canada states its countertop pricing excludes applicable taxes. On a $6,000 fabricated and installed kitchen that is $780 on top. Confirm whether a quote is HST included or HST extra before comparing shops.
  • Silica rules bite harder on engineered stone than on natural stone, and that shapes what GTA shops will and will not cut. CCOHS puts engineered stone at 90 to 97 percent silica against less than 45 percent for granite and usually less than 5 percent for marble. Under Ontario's Designated Substances regulation, O. Reg. 490/09, silica is a designated substance and the occupational exposure limit is 0.10 milligrams per cubic metre for quartz and tripoli, and 0.05 for cristobalite, as an 8-hour time-weighted average. Employers must run a formal assessment and control program to comply.
  • Shop work and site work fall under different Ontario rules, and that split is why serious cutting stays in the shop. O. Reg. 490/09 and its exposure limit do not apply to an employer on a construction project; there, the general duty in clause 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act applies instead, along with section 30, which requires a project owner to determine whether silica is present and inform everyone who could be exposed. Installation day is therefore limited to placement, seam joining and minor adjustment. Australia went further and banned the manufacture, supply, processing and installation of engineered stone benchtops outright from 1 July 2024, so the regulatory direction is tightening rather than loosening.
  • GTA fabrication labour is priced above the rest of Ontario. Natural Stone City's regional table puts Toronto and the GTA at $85 to $160 per sq ft installed against $75 to $140 in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, $70 to $135 in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, and $70 to $130 in Niagara and Hamilton. That is the same work on the same slab, priced by postcode.
  • The GTA supply chain splits slab yards from fabricators, and it changes your quote. Fabricators such as Stone Valley and Stone Wizards run their own shops and quote installed, bundling templating, fabrication, a standard edge, cut-outs and installation into one per-square-foot number. Buying a slab at a yard and hiring fabrication separately is possible, but you then carry the risk on breakage, yield and seam planning yourself, and Natural Stone City notes moving slabs from supplier to fabricator to home can add $50 to $200 on its own.

How can I pay less?

You can keep stone fabrication costs down without cutting the parts that matter. These are the levers GTA homeowners actually use, each tied to a real number above.

  • Buy the slab and the fabrication from the same shop. Split-sourcing means paying the yard for material and a fabricator for labour, and you personally absorb the cost of any breakage, bad yield or seam mistake instead of the fabricator. Natural Stone City also prices slab transport at $50 to $200 on its own.
  • Keep the standard eased or straight edge. Better Marble lists a basic profile as included or $10 to $30 per linear foot, while Ottawa General Contractors puts a premium ogee, mitred or waterfall profile at $20 to $40 per linear foot. On 40 linear feet of exposed edge that is $800 to $1,600 for a detail most people never notice.
  • Skip the waterfall, or do one side instead of two. At $900 to $1,800 per panel at Stone Valley, a double waterfall island adds $1,800 to $3,600 before the extra slab it forces you to buy.
  • Design out the extra cut-outs. Every additional sink cut-out is $150 to $500 across Ontario, a cooktop cut-out is $125 to $450 depending on who quotes it, and Home Depot Canada charges another $175 to $275 per sink just to finish the exposed edge of an undermount opening.
  • Ask whether templating is inside the price. Most GTA shops bundle it, but Natural Stone City says some charge $100 to $300 for custom templates or specialized fabrication work, so it is worth one question rather than a surprise line.
  • Finalise the sink, faucet and cooktop before template day and do not move cabinets afterward. The approved template is the production reference, and a change after cutting starts can mean re-fabricating a section at full cost (Tec Corp Stone).

Where do these numbers come from?

From 4 companies' own published pages, and nowhere else. Countertop Installersdid not survey anyone and did not model, average or interpolate a single figure. Every price above was read off a named company's page in August 2026, is reproduced with that company named beside it, and carries the caveat that company attached to it. Several of those companies compete with each other and are listed in this directory, so no single one of these ranges is the market rate. Here is what reconciling them turned up.

  • Be clear about what this page can and cannot tell you. Almost every GTA shop sells fabrication as part of an installed price per square foot, not as a menu of shop operations. Stone Wizards spells out the standard Toronto bundle: the per square foot number covers the slab, templating, fabrication, a standard edge profile, cut-outs and professional installation. Itemized fabrication pricing is mostly a trade or supply-only conversation, and published Ontario numbers for it are thin. Where a figure below is thin, it is flagged as thin rather than padded out.
  • Three fabrication line items are genuinely missing from the Ontario public record and have been left out rather than guessed. Per-seam charges: no Toronto, GTA or Ontario company published a dollar figure, only that extra seams add fabrication time. Standalone faucet and accessory hole pricing: Home Depot Canada confirms one faucet cut-out is included in its installed price, but no Ontario source prices the extra holes. On-site fabrication surcharges: nobody published one, which fits the market, since bridge saws, CNC tables and wet cutting live in the shop and only minor site adjustments happen at the house.
  • Installed prices span a wide band because the slab, not the shop work, moves the number most. Quartz runs $45 to $180 per sq ft installed at Stone Wizards, $65 to $120 for most GTA homeowners at Stone Valley, $57 to $130 at Home Depot Canada, and $75 to $140 or more as a Toronto planning range at Tec Corp Stone. Granite runs $60 per sq ft for standard colours to $120 or more for premium exotic slabs at Stone Wizards, and $75 to $175 at Toronto General Contractors. Marble runs $90 to $250 installed across the GTA at Better Marble.
  • The one clean way to isolate fabrication is to price the labour lines separately from the slab, and one GTA company publishes them. Better Marble's itemized table gives fabrication, meaning cutting and shaping, at $10 to $40 per linear foot, and installation labour at $50 to $100 per square foot, with the marble slab itself at $60 to $250 per square foot. On that breakdown, shop and site labour is a substantial fraction of a finished stone countertop, which is why two quotes on the same slab can differ by thousands.
  • Where companies give the same line item, they often disagree, and this page now lists each one separately rather than merging them. A cooktop cut-out is $125 to $150 at Home Depot Canada and $250 to $450 at Stone Valley, a spread of more than three times for the same operation. A sink cut-out is $250 to $350 at Stone Valley, $150 to $500 at Natural Stone City and $250 to $400 at Ottawa General Contractors. A premium edge is $20 to $40 per linear foot in Ottawa. Treat any single published figure as a starting point, not a rate card.
  • One extra charge is easy to miss because it is not the cut-out itself. Home Depot Canada charges $175 to $275 per sink to finish the exposed edge of an undermount cut-out, because an undermount sink leaves the cut edge visible where a drop-in would hide it. Natural Stone City also lists optional sealing at $50 to $150 per countertop and slab transport at $50 to $200. These small lines are where two similar-looking quotes separate.
  • Four prices were removed from this page in August 2026. Floorence Tile & Slab carried the slab-supply and labour-only rows, and Countertop Pro GTA carried two edge-profile rows. Both sites now answer automated requests with a bot challenge rather than a page, so nothing on either can be re-checked. The labour and edge lines were rebuilt from Better Marble's itemized GTA table and Ottawa General Contractors, and the slab-supply row from Natural Stone City.

What does the work look like?

Like this. Every photograph below was taken by the shop under it, of a job that shop did, and it links through to that shop's profile. Countertop Installers holds 3,205 of these across 869 businesses and took none of them. A finished edge, a seam you can or cannot see, and how a slab meets a cabinet run are the things a quote is actually about, and they are quicker to judge in a photograph than in a paragraph.

Can I work it out for my own kitchen?

What do the terms on a countertop quote mean?

These are the words that decide what a number covers. Each one is defined here because this guide uses it above, not because a glossary needs filling.

Templating
The measuring visit. A fabricator makes a physical or digital pattern of the finished cabinets, and that pattern, not the drawing, is what the slab is cut to. Cabinets have to be installed and level first, which is why a countertop cannot be ordered at the same time as the kitchen.
Eased edge
The plain, slightly softened square edge. It is the profile normally included in a quoted price, and every other profile is charged as an upgrade.
Mitred waterfall
A vertical panel of the same slab running down the side of an island to the floor, joined at the corner with a 45 degree cut so the veining carries around it. Priced per side because each one consumes extra slab and a precision joint.
Undermount cut-out
An opening cut so the sink hangs below the surface rather than sitting on it. The cut edge stays visible, so it is polished as a separate charge, which is why undermount costs more than a drop-in.
Linear foot
One foot measured along the run of a counter or cabinet, whatever its depth. Cabinets and edge profiles are priced this way while countertops are priced per square foot, so the two numbers on one kitchen quote are not comparable without converting.
Slab yield
How much usable countertop a single slab produces once the layout, the veining and the cut-out positions are set. A small change in island size can push a kitchen onto a second slab and move the price more than extra square footage would.
Supplied versus installed
The first question to ask of any countertop price. A supplied figure is the material delivered and nothing else; an installed figure covers templating, fabrication and fitting as well. The two are quoted in the same units and the same currency and routinely differ by more than any upgrade on the job, which is why two quotes on one kitchen can look thousands apart while describing identical work.
Bookmatching
Cutting two adjacent slabs from the same block and opening them like a book so the veining mirrors across the joint. It forces the layout to be planned around the pattern rather than around the offcuts, and can push a kitchen onto a second slab even when the square footage looks modest.

Frequently asked questions

How much does stone fabrication cost on its own in Toronto?

Only one GTA company publishes the labour lines separately. Better Marble's itemized table gives fabrication, meaning cutting and shaping, at $10 to $40 per linear foot, and installation labour at $50 to $100 per square foot, against a marble slab at $60 to $250 per square foot. Most GTA shops do not sell fabrication as a separate service to homeowners at all: they quote an installed price that already contains it, which Stone Valley puts at $65 to $120 per square foot for what most GTA homeowners pay for quartz.

What is actually included in a Toronto fabricator's per square foot price?

Stone Wizards states its own bundle plainly: templating, fabrication, a standard edge profile, cut-outs and professional installation, all inside the per-square-foot number. Almost always excluded and quoted separately across the market: removing the old countertop, plumbing disconnect and reconnect, backsplash, premium edge profiles, waterfall panels and any cut-out beyond the first sink. Ask for the exclusions in writing, because that list is where two quotes on the same slab separate.

How much do premium edge profiles add?

Better Marble lists a basic profile as included or $10 to $30 per linear foot. Ottawa General Contractors, the only readable Canadian source publishing a premium-edge rate, puts an ogee, mitred or waterfall profile at $20 to $40 per linear foot and says a standard eased or bevelled edge is usually included in base pricing. A mitred waterfall panel is priced per panel rather than per foot, at $900 to $1,800 per side at Stone Valley. On a kitchen with 40 linear feet of exposed edge, the profile alone can swing the quote by $800 to $1,600.

What does a sink or cooktop cut-out cost in the GTA?

One sink cut-out is normally included. Beyond that the published figures disagree, and this page lists them separately rather than merging them: Stone Valley charges $250 to $350 for a sink and $250 to $450 for a cooktop, Natural Stone City puts an Ontario sink cut-out at $150 to $500 depending on complexity, Ottawa General Contractors prices sink and cooktop openings identically at $250 to $400, and Home Depot Canada prices a cooktop cut-out at $125 to $150. There is also a separate $175 to $275 per sink charge at Home Depot Canada to finish the exposed edge of an undermount opening.

Why does this page not publish a per-seam price?

Because no Toronto, GTA or Ontario company publishes one. Sources agree that extra seams add fabrication time and that L-shapes, long spans and oversized islands force them, but none of them attaches a dollar figure. The same is true of standalone faucet and accessory hole pricing beyond the first, and of on-site fabrication surcharges. Rather than model a number, this guide says the gap exists. Ask any shop to price seams as a named line.

Why does a licensed GTA shop cost more than a garage operation?

Silica control, mostly. CCOHS puts engineered stone at 90 to 97 percent silica against less than 45 percent for granite. Ontario's O. Reg. 490/09 makes silica a designated substance with an exposure limit of 0.10 milligrams per cubic metre for quartz as an 8-hour average, and requires a formal assessment and control program: wet cutting, local exhaust ventilation, HEPA extraction and a respirator program. That cost is inside the per-square-foot fabrication rate. Australia banned engineered stone benchtops outright from 1 July 2024, so this is a tightening area, not a loosening one.

Questions to ask your installer

  • Do you sell to homeowners directly, or only through installers?
  • Do you cut in your own shop, and on what equipment?
  • Will you fabricate a slab I bought elsewhere, and who carries breakage?
  • Do you have remnants that would cover a small top? Where remnants save money
  • How do you control silica dust in the shop?
