How Much Does Countertop Installation Cost in Toronto in 2026?

Last updated: By The Slab Desk

Countertop installation in the Toronto area runs $4,500 to $7,500 per project, as published by Teccorp Stone (Toronto kitchen countertop cost guide). Material is the single biggest factor, then square footage, edge profile, seam count, and cut-outs for sinks and cooktops. Tearing out and disposing of the old surface, walk-up stairs, tight access and a same-day rip-and-replace all add labour. GTA fabricators normally quote before 13% HST.

What does countertop installation cost per square foot and per job?

These are not Countertop Installers estimates and they are not a market survey. Every range below rests on 6 independent companies publishing prices on 7 of their own pages, read off those pages in August 2026: Teccorp Stone, Stone Valley Countertops, Stone Wizards, Toronto General Contractors, Better Marble, Josh Kitchen. Most are GTA fabricators and suppliers, and several are listed in this directory. Read each one as what that company advertises, not as what a job settles at: an advertised range is written to win the work, a real quote is measured on site. Where two companies disagree, each range is published under its own company's name rather than merged into a wider band neither of them quotes.

How far apart are the companies?

Far enough that a reader with two quotes should not assume one of them is wrong. The drawing below is the same rows as the table above, one axis per unit, so a square-foot rate is never set against a per cut-out fee. Each bar runs from the low figure that company advertises to its high figure, and the bar is drawn from those two numbers and nothing else. On the per sq ft installed (CAD) figures the two furthest apart are $45–$180 and $90–$250, from Stone Wizards (Toronto, 2026 pricing guide) and Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025). Neither is the market rate, because this site has not got one and has not built one.

Published by Teccorp Stone (Toronto kitchen countertop cost guide). Teccorp Stone publishes this as a planning range, not a quotation: it says the final quote depends on material, slab quantity, fabrication and installation scope.

2 published figures, per removal (CAD)

  • Tear-out and disposal of an existing countertop (GTA)$125–$250

Published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown). A line in Better Marble's itemized marble table. Josh Kitchen publishes CAD 200 to 500 for the same removal, listed separately above rather than merged into one wider range.

Published by Josh Kitchen (Toronto countertop replacement guide). Josh Kitchen prices this as professional removal including handling plumbing and electrical connections where needed. Better Marble publishes a lower $125 to $250 for the same line, listed separately below.

3 rows in the table are not drawn above. Each is the only figure on this page priced that way, so there is nothing on the same unit to set them against, and one bar alone on an axis says less than the row already does.

What actually happens, and which part each price covers

A countertop replacement is six separate operations and most quotes price only some of them. This is the order they happen in, with the figures from the table above attached to the stage they belong to. Where nobody on this page prices a stage on its own line, it says so rather than guessing.
  1. Cabinets in and levelled

Nothing can be measured until the base cabinets and the island are installed, secured and levelled. This is why a countertop cannot be ordered at the same time as the kitchen, and why unlevel cabinets buy you a second visit.

No company on this page prices this stage. It is the homeowner's or the cabinet installer's, and it sets the date everything after it hangs off.

  2. Template

The fabricator makes a physical or digital pattern of the finished cabinets. That pattern, not the kitchen drawing, is what the slab gets cut to.

None of the companies on this page bills the template visit as its own line. It sits inside the per square foot rates below.

  3. Tear-out of the old top

Almost always quoted separately from the new top. What is coming off decides the price: laminate pulls in about half an hour, stone can take half a day, and plumbing or electrical connections have to be handled.

    • $200–$500 per removal (CAD), Tear-out and disposal of an existing countertop (Toronto), published by Josh Kitchen (Toronto countertop replacement guide)
    • $125–$250 per removal (CAD), Tear-out and disposal of an existing countertop (GTA), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  4. Fabrication

Cutting and shaping the slab, polishing the edge and cutting the openings. The plain eased edge is normally in the price and everything else is an addition, which is where two quotes on the same kitchen start to separate.

    • $10–$40 per linear ft (CAD), Fabrication, cutting and shaping (GTA), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
    • $900–$1,800 per panel (CAD), Mitred waterfall edge panel (per island side), published by Stone Valley Countertops (GTA pricing guide)
  5. Install and seam

Setting the pieces, joining them and levelling. An L-shape needs a corner seam, an island is a second install surface, and 2cm slabs often need plywood support underneath.

    • $50–$100 per sq ft (CAD), Installation labour component only, stone countertop (GTA), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  6. The whole job, quoted as one number

What the companies on this page publish when they price everything above as a single project figure. Two of them price the same small condo kitchen differently, and both numbers are here rather than averaged.

    • $2,400–$3,800 per project (CAD), Small condo kitchen, complete countertop replacement project (GTA), published by Stone Valley Countertops (Mississauga, GTA quartz pricing guide)
    • $2,800–$4,500 per project (CAD), Small condo kitchen, complete countertop replacement project (Toronto), published by Teccorp Stone (Toronto kitchen countertop cost guide)
    • $4,500–$7,500 per project (CAD), Standard family kitchen, complete countertop replacement project (Toronto), published by Teccorp Stone (Toronto kitchen countertop cost guide)

What drives the price?

Scope drives it more than material does. The list below is ordered by how much each one moves a countertop installation quote in Toronto, and every line names the company that published the figure beside it, so you can read a quote and see where the money goes.

  • Material tier, not just material type: Stone Valley grades quartz at $65-$85 (A), $85-$105 (B) and $110-$180+ (premium) per sq ft installed
  • What the per-square-foot rate includes: tear-out, plumbing disconnect, backsplash and premium edges are almost always quoted separately
  • Number of cutouts beyond the included sink: $150-$500 each, with cooktop openings at $250-$450 (Stone Valley, Natural Stone City)
  • Edge profile: eased is included, upgraded profiles add $10-$30 per linear foot, mitred waterfall panels add $900-$1,800 per side
  • Layout complexity and seam count: L-shapes need corner seaming, islands add a second install surface, and 2cm slabs often need plywood support and edge buildup
  • Existing countertop material: laminate pulls in about half an hour, stone can take half a day, which drives removal from $125 to $500
  • Condo access: elevator booking, loading-dock windows, parking and carry distance can change crew size, section sizes and seam placement
  • Cabinet readiness: templating happens after base cabinets and islands are installed, secured and levelled, so unfinished or unlevel cabinets add a return visit

What's specific to Ontario and Toronto?

Ontario rules and Toronto's climate change the math in ways national price guides miss. Here is what applies locally, from HST to permits to freeze-thaw.

  • Ontario HST is 13%, made up of a 5% federal and an 8% provincial component (WOWA). Better Marble's GTA cost table lists taxes as a separate +13% line on top of slab, fabrication, installation, cutouts and removal. Countertop quotes in Toronto are commonly presented before tax, so confirm which you are looking at: 13% on a $6,000 standard-kitchen project is $780.
  • No building permit is required in Ontario to replace a countertop like for like. Josh Kitchen confirms that simply replacing countertops does not need a permit in most GTA municipalities, but that relocating a sink, changing the plumbing layout or adding electrical outlets does, and that the City of Toronto explicitly requires permits for projects involving plumbing or electrical changes. Plan the permit only if the new top moves a fixture.
  • Condo and high-rise installations carry real logistical cost that ground-level houses do not. Teccorp Stone lists what has to be confirmed before fabrication: freight-elevator availability and reservation requirements, loading-dock access and permitted delivery times, protection requirements for elevators, corridors and common areas, and the maximum countertop section size the delivery route allows. Stone Wizards names condo installs as costing more than house installs in downtown Toronto because of elevator booking, parking logistics and longer carry distances.
  • Elevator and corridor dimensions can force a seam that the kitchen itself does not need. Teccorp Stone notes a large island or long countertop section may fit in the kitchen and still be impossible to move through the building, so the slab layout and seam plan should be approved only after the access route is measured. A one-piece island may otherwise require extra installers or specialized handling equipment.
  • Ontario installer labour rates run $30-$60 per hour when quoted hourly (Natural Stone City), varying with fabricator experience and local demand. GTA turnaround is short: Stone Wizards reports a typical 3-5 day turnaround, Stone Valley Countertops offers roughly one week from template to installation, and Josh Kitchen puts custom fabrication at 1-2 weeks with installation completed in a single day and the kitchen unusable for 1-2 days.

How can I pay less?

You can keep countertop installation costs down without cutting the parts that matter. These are the levers GTA homeowners actually use, each tied to a real number above.

  • Keep the standard eased edge. It is included in the per-square-foot price at GTA fabricators, while a mitred waterfall panel adds $900-$1,800 per island side and upgraded profiles add $10-$30 per linear foot. On a typical island that is the single largest avoidable line.
  • Compare inclusion lists, not bottom lines. A $45/sq ft Toronto quote that excludes tear-out ($125-$500), delivery and the sink cutout ($150-$500) is not cheaper than a $60/sq ft quote that includes all three. Ask each shop in writing what the number covers.
  • Hold the cutout count down. One undermount sink cutout is normally included; every additional sink, cooktop, soap dispenser or specialty opening runs $150-$500, and a cooktop cutout alone is $250-$450.
  • Buy the entry tier rather than the designer brand. Stone Wizards starts direct-from-manufacturer quartz at $45 per sq ft installed against $110-$180+ for premium designer slabs. On a 40 sq ft Toronto kitchen that is roughly $1,800 versus $4,400-$7,200 for the same area.
  • Budget countertops as a share of the renovation. Stone Wizards puts countertops at 8-15% of a full kitchen project, so a $30,000 Toronto kitchen supports a $2,400-$4,500 countertop line. Spending past that usually means cutting cabinets or appliances.
  • Confirm condo access before fabrication, not on install day. Sharing elevator dimensions, corridor turns and door widths up front lets the shop plan section sizes, and avoids a rush seam, a second crew or a redelivery once the slab is already cut.

Where do these numbers come from?

From 6 companies' own published pages, and nowhere else. Countertop Installersdid not survey anyone and did not model, average or interpolate a single figure. Every price above was read off a named company's page in August 2026, is reproduced with that company named beside it, and carries the caveat that company attached to it. Several of those companies compete with each other and are listed in this directory, so no single one of these ranges is the market rate. Here is what reconciling them turned up.

  • GTA countertop quotes are almost always given as one number per square foot installed, and that number bundles the labour a homeowner is actually shopping for: templating, fabrication, delivery, placement, seaming and one standard sink cutout. Stone Wizards states plainly that its Toronto per-square-foot price covers slab material, CNC fabrication, a standard edge, one undermount sink cutout, delivery, installation and seaming, and that this is standard across the Toronto fabricator market. What sits outside that number is where quotes diverge, so a bottom-line comparison between two shops is close to meaningless without the inclusion list.
  • Sources disagree sharply on the installed rate, and the honest answer is a wide band rather than a single figure. Stone Wizards puts Toronto quartz at $45-$180 per sq ft installed with most of its own projects at $45-$95. Teccorp Stone gives a Toronto planning range of $75-$140+ per sq ft. Sultan Stone cites $80-$150 with entry projects closer to $50-$60. Stone Valley Countertops prices by grade at $65-$85 (A-grade), $85-$105 (B-grade) and $110-$180+ (premium). Natural Stone City puts the Toronto and GTA band at $85-$160 for mid-range to premium. Taken together, roughly $45-$180 per sq ft installed covers the real Toronto market, with most standard kitchens landing between $65 and $120.
  • Ontario installation labour on its own is quoted two ways. Natural Stone City reports Ontario installers charging $30-$60 per hour when labour is itemized. Better Marble's GTA breakdown instead prices the installation labour component at $50-$100 per sq ft, with fabrication (cutting and shaping) at $10-$40 per linear foot. The two are not comparable measures, which is exactly why Teccorp Stone warns that a labour-only quotation should never be compared directly against a coordinated quote that includes templating, fabrication coordination, delivery, handling and final installation.
  • Tear-out of the old top is a separate line almost everywhere. Josh Kitchen quotes Toronto removal at $200-$500. Better Marble's GTA table lists old countertop removal at $125-$250. The spread is real and material-driven: Stone Wizards notes that some kitchens have laminate that takes thirty minutes to pull, others have granite that takes half a day, which is why fabricators refuse to fold removal into the square-foot rate. Budget $125-$500 and get it named in writing along with sink disconnection and any cabinet repair.
  • Whole-project totals cluster more tightly than per-square-foot rates. Teccorp Stone plans Toronto kitchens at roughly $2,800-$4,500 for a small condo kitchen, $4,500-$7,500 for a standard family kitchen and $7,500-$12,000+ for a large kitchen with an island. Stone Valley Countertops gives $2,400-$3,800, $3,800-$6,500 and $8,500-$18,000+ for the same three tiers, and puts an average GTA kitchen at $3,200-$6,500+. Stone Wizards works from area instead: a standard Toronto kitchen of 30-40 sq ft runs roughly $1,350-$3,800 installed at its entry tier.
  • Add-ons move the total faster than material choice does. Stone Valley Countertops prices an undermount sink cutout at $250-$350, a cooktop cutout at $250-$450, a full-height backsplash at $900-$2,200+ and a mitred waterfall edge at $900-$1,800 per side, with the standard eased edge included. Natural Stone City puts sink cutouts wider at $150-$500 and adds templating or specialized fabrication fees of $100-$300 and transportation of $50-$200. Two waterfall ends and a full-height backsplash can add more to a condo kitchen than the entire base countertop.

What does the work look like?

Like this. Every photograph below was taken by the shop under it, of a job that shop did, and it links through to that shop's profile. Countertop Installers holds 3,205 of these across 869 businesses and took none of them. A finished edge, a seam you can or cannot see, and how a slab meets a cabinet run are the things a quote is actually about, and they are quicker to judge in a photograph than in a paragraph.

Can I work it out for my own kitchen?

What do the terms on a countertop quote mean?

These are the words that decide what a number covers. Each one is defined here because this guide uses it above, not because a glossary needs filling.

Templating
The measuring visit. A fabricator makes a physical or digital pattern of the finished cabinets, and that pattern, not the drawing, is what the slab is cut to. Cabinets have to be installed and level first, which is why a countertop cannot be ordered at the same time as the kitchen.
Eased edge
The plain, slightly softened square edge. It is the profile normally included in a quoted price, and every other profile is charged as an upgrade.
Mitred waterfall
A vertical panel of the same slab running down the side of an island to the floor, joined at the corner with a 45 degree cut so the veining carries around it. Priced per side because each one consumes extra slab and a precision joint.
Undermount cut-out
An opening cut so the sink hangs below the surface rather than sitting on it. The cut edge stays visible, so it is polished as a separate charge, which is why undermount costs more than a drop-in.
Linear foot
One foot measured along the run of a counter or cabinet, whatever its depth. Cabinets and edge profiles are priced this way while countertops are priced per square foot, so the two numbers on one kitchen quote are not comparable without converting.
Slab yield
How much usable countertop a single slab produces once the layout, the veining and the cut-out positions are set. A small change in island size can push a kitchen onto a second slab and move the price more than extra square footage would.

Frequently asked questions

How much does countertop installation cost in Toronto?

Fully installed, Toronto countertops run roughly $45-$180 per square foot depending on material and tier, with most standard kitchens landing between $65 and $120 per square foot. That number normally covers templating, fabrication, delivery, installation, seaming and one sink cutout. A standard family kitchen comes to about $4,500-$7,500 as a complete project, a small condo kitchen about $2,400-$4,500, and a large kitchen with an island $7,500-$18,000 depending on the fabricator and the material. All figures are before 13% HST.

What is included in a per-square-foot countertop installation price in the GTA?

At Toronto fabricators the rate typically includes slab material, CNC fabrication, a standard eased or polished straight edge, one standard undermount sink cutout, delivery, installation and seaming. Almost always excluded and quoted separately: removal and disposal of the old countertop ($125-$500), plumbing disconnect and reconnect, backsplash ($900-$2,200+ for full height), premium edge profiles ($10-$30 per linear foot), and extra cutouts ($150-$500 each).

How much does it cost to remove and dispose of an old countertop in Toronto?

Between $125 and $500. Josh Kitchen quotes Toronto removal at $200-$500 including handling plumbing and electrical connections; Better Marble's GTA breakdown lists $125-$250. The spread is driven by material: laminate takes roughly half an hour to pull, granite can take half a day. Fabricators keep it off the square-foot rate for that reason, so get it named as its own line in the quote.

Do I need a permit to replace kitchen countertops in Toronto?

No. Replacing a countertop like for like does not require a building permit in Ontario or in most GTA municipalities. A permit is required if you relocate the sink, change the plumbing layout or add electrical outlets, and the City of Toronto explicitly requires permits for any project involving plumbing or electrical changes. A straight countertop swap takes 1-3 days on site with fabrication running 1-2 weeks between template and install.

Does a condo countertop installation cost more than a house in Toronto?

Yes, and the reason is access rather than square footage. A small Toronto condo kitchen still comes to about $2,400-$4,500 as a complete project even though it holds less area than a house kitchen, because downtown condo installs carry elevator booking, loading-dock time windows, parking coordination, common-area protection and longer carry distances. Elevator and corridor dimensions also cap the maximum section size, which can force a planned seam or a second installer on an island that would ship in one piece to a house. Confirm freight-elevator reservation rules and route dimensions before the slab layout is approved, not on install day.

How much is labour alone for countertop installation in Ontario?

Quoted hourly, Ontario countertop installers charge $30-$60 per hour. Quoted by area, the installation labour component on a stone top runs $50-$100 per square foot in the GTA, with fabrication (cutting and shaping) adding $10-$40 per linear foot and templating or specialized fabrication fees of $100-$300. Do not compare a labour-only price against a coordinated quote that includes templating, fabrication, delivery and final installation: they are different scopes.

Questions to ask your installer

  • Which material and thickness am I getting, 2cm or 3cm, and is a build-up edge included? Compare material and thickness costs
  • Where will the seams fall, and will you mark them on the template drawing for my sign-off?
  • Is tear-out and disposal of the old surface in this price? What tear-out and disposal add
  • Who disconnects and reconnects the sink, faucet and any gas cooktop?
  • What is your current turnaround from template to install, in writing?
