How Much Do Marble Countertops Cost in Toronto in 2026?

Last updated: By The Slab Desk

Marble countertops in the Toronto area run $90 to $110 per sq ft installed, as published by Better Marble (North York showroom, June 2025 Toronto price guide). Carrara is usually the way in, while Calacatta and Statuario cost more for a whiter background and bolder veining. Book-matching a feature run means buying and wasting more slab. Finish matters too: a honed surface hides etching better than a polish, and many fabricators quote a protective treatment alongside it. Marble is porous and needs sealing.

What does marble cost per square foot installed?

These are not Countertop Installers estimates and they are not a market survey. Every range below rests on 5 independent companies publishing prices on 6 of their own pages, read off those pages in August 2026: Better Marble, Stone Wizards, Tec Corp Stone, Blackwood Kitchens, GTA Marble. Most are GTA fabricators and suppliers, and several are listed in this directory. Read each one as what that company advertises, not as what a job settles at: an advertised range is written to win the work, a real quote is measured on site. Where two companies disagree, each range is published under its own company's name rather than merged into a wider band neither of them quotes.

How far apart are the companies?

Far enough that a reader with two quotes should not assume one of them is wrong. The drawing below is the same rows as the table above, one axis per unit, so a square-foot rate is never set against a per cut-out fee. Each bar runs from the low figure that company advertises to its high figure, and the bar is drawn from those two numbers and nothing else. On the per sq ft installed (CAD) figures the two furthest apart are $45–$180 and $90–$250, from Stone Wizards (Toronto quartz cost guide, 2026) and Better Marble (Toronto/GTA material comparison table, 2025). Neither is the market rate, because this site has not got one and has not built one.

Every published range on this page that has two closed ends, grouped by the exact unit its own source priced it in. Read off 5 companies' own pages in August 2026.

4 published figures, per sq ft installed (CAD)

  • Marble-look quartz countertop, installed (Calacatta-style alternative)$45–$180

Published by Stone Wizards (Toronto quartz cost guide, 2026). Stone Wizards' quartz price, shown here only so the marble figures above have something to sit against. Most of its Select projects land between $45 and $95.

  • Carrara marble countertop, installed (entry level, GTA)$90–$110

Published by Better Marble (North York showroom, June 2025 Toronto price guide). Better Marble calls Carrara the most affordable marble it sells and writes $90 to $110 as where installed pricing starts, not as a band the job lands in.

  • Marble countertops in the GTA, whole published installed span$90–$250

Published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA material comparison table, 2025). Better Marble's own material comparison table, which puts quartz at $80 to $180, granite at $75 to $175 and quartzite at $120 to $250 beside it. This row previously merged a Stone Wizards floor of $150+ with Better Marble's $250 top into a $150 to $250 band neither company publishes.

  • Mid-grade imported marble (Statuario, Crema Marfil, Emperador), installed$120–$150

Published by Stone Wizards (Toronto and GTA fabricator, marble price tiers). Stone Wizards writes this as FROM $120-150 per sq ft, a starting point rather than a ceiling. Its quotes include templating, fabrication, a standard edge profile, cut-outs and installation.

2 published figures, per project (CAD)

  • Whole marble countertop project, GTA supplier's own average$2,000–$5,000

Published by GTA Marble (Toronto, countertop pricing table). From GTA Marble's own comparison table, whose column is headed Average Cost Range. It is the only source on this page that publishes an average project figure rather than only a range, and it sits well below the other GTA quotes, so ask what it covers before treating it as comparable.

  • Typical GTA marble kitchen, 30-40 sq ft of counter, installed total$3,500–$8,000

Published by Stone Wizards (Toronto and GTA, typical kitchen total). Stone Wizards states these prices are installed, meaning templating, fabrication, a standard edge profile, cut-outs and professional installation are included, and writes the top as $8,000+.

7 rows in the table are not drawn above. Each is the only figure on this page priced that way, so there is nothing on the same unit to set them against, and one bar alone on an axis says less than the row already does.

One marble quote, split into the lines it is actually made of

Most companies quote marble as a single per square foot number. One of the fabricators on this page publishes its own itemized table instead, so the parts of that number can be laid out separately. This is what the itemization looks like, stage by stage, and it ends with the cost marble has that engineered stone does not.
  1. The slab, before anyone touches it

The stone on its own. The span is enormous because Carrara and a rare imported block sit in the same line, and it is the reason two marble quotes can be twice as far apart as two quartz quotes.

    • $60–$250 per sq ft (CAD), Marble slab, material only (before fabrication and installation), published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
    • $90–$110 per sq ft installed (CAD), Carrara marble countertop, installed (entry level, GTA), published by Better Marble (North York showroom, June 2025 Toronto price guide)
    • $120–$150 per sq ft installed (CAD), Mid-grade imported marble (Statuario, Crema Marfil, Emperador), installed, published by Stone Wizards (Toronto and GTA fabricator, marble price tiers)
  2. Cutting, shaping and the edge

A plain eased or straight edge costs nothing on this table. An ogee, bullnose or mitred profile is charged by the foot along the front of the run, which is why an edge upgrade lands harder on a long kitchen than on a small one.

    • $10–$30 per linear ft (CAD), Upgraded edge profile over the included eased edge, published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  3. The openings

Charged per opening. Vein matching complicates this on marble specifically: pieces have to be cut in a set orientation, so an opening in the wrong place can force a second slab.

    • $150–$300 per cut-out (CAD), Undermount sink cut-out, published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  4. Taking the old top out

Its own line on the itemized table rather than something buried in the installed rate above it.

    • $125–$250 per removal (CAD), Tear-out and disposal of an existing countertop, published by Better Marble (Toronto/GTA, 2025 itemized breakdown)
  5. The kitchen as one figure

What the same work costs when a company quotes the whole job. One supplier on this page publishes a project average well below the others, and it is printed as its own figure rather than blended into theirs.

    • $2,000–$5,000 per project (CAD), Whole marble countertop project, GTA supplier's own average, published by GTA Marble (Toronto, countertop pricing table)
    • $3,500–$8,000 per project (CAD), Typical GTA marble kitchen, 30-40 sq ft of counter, installed total, published by Stone Wizards (Toronto and GTA, typical kitchen total)
    • $7,500–$12,000 per project, all materials (CAD), Large Toronto kitchen with an island, stone countertops installed, published by Tec Corp Stone (GTA fabricator, Toronto kitchen countertop cost guide)
  6. Sealing, twice a year, forever

The stage that separates marble from every engineered surface on this site. It is not part of the install price and it does not happen once: the source publishes the frequency beside the price.

    • $100–$200 per application (CAD), Professional marble sealing, one application, published by Better Marble (Toronto cost breakdown, June 2025)

What drives the price?

Scope drives it more than material does. The list below is ordered by how much each one moves a marble countertop quote in Toronto, and every line names the company that published the figure beside it, so you can read a quote and see where the money goes.

  • Marble type and grade: Better Marble puts Carrara at $90 to $110 per sq ft installed, while Stone Wizards prices its mid-range Statuario, Crema Marfil and Emperador tier from $120 to $150 and its premium tier from $150 up
  • Slab thickness: 3 cm costs more than 2 cm, but 2 cm often needs plywood support and edge build-up that eats the saving
  • Fabrication and labour: $10 to $40 per linear ft plus $50 to $100 per sq ft installation in the GTA (Better Marble)
  • Cut-outs and removal: sink cut-outs $150 to $300 each, old countertop removal $125 to $250 (Better Marble)
  • Edge profile: eased or straight is included; ogee, bullnose or mitred adds $10 to $30 per ft (Better Marble)
  • Finish: Tec Corp Stone says a polished surface makes etching more noticeable while light etching and gradual patina blend more naturally into a honed one, so the finish changes how often the top needs professional attention
  • Book-matching and vein matching: it can force a second slab even when the square footage looks modest, because pieces must be cut in a specific orientation (Tec Corp Stone)
  • Site access: Toronto condo elevator bookings, restricted hours and long carry routes add installers, time and sometimes an unwanted seam

What's specific to Ontario and Toronto?

Ontario rules and Toronto's climate change the math in ways national price guides miss. Here is what applies locally, from HST to permits to freeze-thaw.

  • Ontario HST is 13 percent and Better Marble lists it as a separate line on top of its Toronto quotes. A $6,000 marble kitchen is $6,780 out the door. Always confirm whether a GTA quote is HST-included before comparing two contractors.
  • GTA installation labour is quoted at $50 to $100 per sq ft by Better Marble, on top of fabrication at $10 to $40 per linear ft. That labour component is why a Toronto marble kitchen costs more than the slab price suggests, and why complex layouts with multiple seams, curved edges or a full-height backsplash push quotes toward the top of the range.
  • Toronto condo and high-rise installs cost more than ground-level houses. Stone Wizards cites elevator booking, parking logistics and longer carry distances. A large island piece can fit inside the selected slab and still be impossible to move through the building entrance, elevator or unit door, which forces a planned seam in a slab chosen for its uninterrupted veining. Confirm elevator dimensions and corridor turns before the slab layout is approved, not after.
  • Sealing advice for Ontario kitchens is inconsistent across suppliers, so widen your expectations. Better Marble says every 6 to 12 months at $100 to $200 per application. Deslaurier, in Ontario, calls every 3 months a good rule of thumb. Tec Corp Stone argues against a fixed schedule and says neither finish prevents etching in the first place. Plan on at least annual sealing and test with a water droplet: if it darkens the stone within a few minutes, reseal.
  • Etching and staining are the real day-to-day issue in an Ontario kitchen, not chipping. Coffee, red wine, oils and strongly coloured liquids stain a porous surface, while acids strip the polish. Toronto suppliers sell dedicated anti-etch treatments for this reason, such as the MORE AntiEtch product carried by MarbleTop Shop in Toronto for marble and other calcium-based stone. Do not expect an ordinary penetrating sealer to do the same job.

How can I pay less?

You can keep marble countertop costs down without cutting the parts that matter. These are the levers GTA homeowners actually use, each tied to a real number above.

  • Put marble on the island only and use quartz or porcelain on the perimeter. Marble-look quartz at $45 to $95 per sq ft, which is where most Stone Wizards Select projects land, carries the working surfaces while the island keeps the stone. You keep the visual centrepiece and cut the exposure to etching in the prep and sink zones.
  • Ask about remnants for vanities, powder rooms, laundry counters and bar tops. A single vanity is small enough to come out of someone else's leftover slab. A remnant only saves money if the width, depth, thickness and sink position genuinely fit, otherwise the extra labour eats the discount.
  • Choose a honed finish if you cook. Tec Corp Stone notes that light etching and gradual patina blend more naturally into a honed, low-sheen surface, while polished marble makes every etch mark visible as a dull patch beside the shine.
  • Pick marble-look quartz outright if the appeal is the pattern rather than the stone. Toronto quartz runs $45 to $180 per sq ft installed against $90 to $250 for marble, and it never needs sealing. On a 35 sq ft kitchen that is roughly $1,575 to $3,325 in quartz against $3,150 to $8,750 in marble, before the $100 to $200 per sealing application marble adds at least once a year.
  • Stay on standard edges and simplify the layout. Upgraded profiles cost $10 to $30 per ft and each sink cut-out is $150 to $300 (Better Marble). A premium edge can be limited to the island rather than run through the whole kitchen.
  • Size the island against the slab before the cabinets are built. A small change to island length or width can be the difference between one slab and two, and a second marble slab at $60 to $250 per sq ft material is the single largest avoidable cost on the job.

Where do these numbers come from?

From 5 companies' own published pages, and nowhere else. Countertop Installersdid not survey anyone and did not model, average or interpolate a single figure. Every price above was read off a named company's page in August 2026, is reproduced with that company named beside it, and carries the caveat that company attached to it. Several of those companies compete with each other and are listed in this directory, so no single one of these ranges is the market rate. Here is what reconciling them turned up.

  • Toronto marble quotes span a wide band and the companies do not agree on where it starts. Better Marble puts installed marble at $90 to $250 per sq ft across the GTA. Stone Wizards starts Carrara at $90 per sq ft, mid-range at $120 to $150 and premium at $150 or more. Toronto General Contractors quotes 100 to 250 CAD per sq ft installed and says most kitchen projects land in the lower half of it. Lemberg Stone puts Toronto marble at CAD $50 to $250. Deslaurier, an Ontario cabinet maker, puts marble at $80 to $250. The working span is therefore about $50 to $250 per sq ft, and four of the five agree the practical middle is $90 to $150.
  • One Toronto supplier is a clear outlier on the low side. GTA Marble's own comparison table lists marble projects at $2,000 to $5,000 with an average of $3,000, and about $60 per square foot rising to $100 or more. That is well below every other GTA quote here. Its table mixes project totals and per-square-foot rates in the same row, so ask what it covers before treating it as comparable.
  • The material is only part of the number. Better Marble breaks its Toronto quotes into slab at $60 to $250 per sq ft, fabrication at $10 to $40 per linear ft, installation labour at $50 to $100 per sq ft, sink cut-outs at $150 to $300 each, old countertop removal at $125 to $250, and upgraded edge profiles at included or $10 to $30 per ft. Two quotes with the same headline rate can differ by more than a thousand dollars once those line items are counted.
  • Marble is the highest-maintenance countertop surface sold in the GTA. It is soft, porous and it etches. Tec Corp Stone states plainly that neither a polished nor a honed finish prevents etching, staining or scratching, and that when acidic foods or unsuitable cleaners react with marble the affected area loses reflectivity and appears dull beside the surrounding surface. Deslaurier names lemon juice and vinegar as everyday kitchen items that wear the finish down. That is a permanent characteristic of the material, not a defect and not a fixable one.
  • Because etching is chemical rather than surface dirt, living with marble means budgeting for restoration and protection rather than cleaning. Toronto suppliers sell dedicated anti-etch treatments for exactly this reason, such as the MORE AntiEtch product carried by MarbleTop Shop in Toronto. An ordinary penetrating sealer reduces liquid absorption; it does not stop acid reacting with the stone.
  • Marble-look quartz is the direct substitute and it is meaningfully cheaper in Toronto. Stone Wizards quotes quartz at $45 to $180 per sq ft installed with most of its Select projects landing between $45 and $95, against $90 and up for its marble. Quartz is non-porous and never needs sealing. It does not reproduce the depth of real veining, which is the whole reason people pay the marble premium.
  • Two prices were removed from this page in August 2026. A marble restoration rate from Dirt2Shine and a remnant saving from Countertop Pro GTA were previously published here. Neither site now returns readable content to an automated request, so neither figure can be re-checked, and both were deleted rather than left standing.

What does the work look like?

Like this. Every photograph below was taken by the shop under it, of a job that shop did, and it links through to that shop's profile. Countertop Installers holds 3,205 of these across 869 businesses and took none of them. A finished edge, a seam you can or cannot see, and how a slab meets a cabinet run are the things a quote is actually about, and they are quicker to judge in a photograph than in a paragraph.

Can I work it out for my own kitchen?

What do the terms on a countertop quote mean?

These are the words that decide what a number covers. Each one is defined here because this guide uses it above, not because a glossary needs filling.

Templating
The measuring visit. A fabricator makes a physical or digital pattern of the finished cabinets, and that pattern, not the drawing, is what the slab is cut to. Cabinets have to be installed and level first, which is why a countertop cannot be ordered at the same time as the kitchen.
Eased edge
The plain, slightly softened square edge. It is the profile normally included in a quoted price, and every other profile is charged as an upgrade.
Undermount cut-out
An opening cut so the sink hangs below the surface rather than sitting on it. The cut edge stays visible, so it is polished as a separate charge, which is why undermount costs more than a drop-in.
Remnant
An offcut left after a large slab is cut down, big enough to make a vanity top, a laundry counter or a bar. Sold below full-slab rates, and rarely priced publicly.
Slab yield
How much usable countertop a single slab produces once the layout, the veining and the cut-out positions are set. A small change in island size can push a kitchen onto a second slab and move the price more than extra square footage would.
Honed finish
A matte surface ground flat and left unpolished. On marble it changes how the stone ages rather than how it performs: etching and gradual patina blend into a honed face and stand out sharply on a polished one, so the finish decides how often the top wants professional attention.
Bookmatching
Cutting two adjacent slabs from the same block and opening them like a book so the veining mirrors across the joint. It forces the layout to be planned around the pattern rather than around the offcuts, and can push a kitchen onto a second slab even when the square footage looks modest.

Which other cost guides should I read next?

These three quote the most fabricators in common with this page, so they are the ones that let you check a number against a second material or a second scope.

Or read it against one other material at a time. 2 comparisons on this site read the same price rows as this guide and set them line by line against another material: marble vs quartz countertops and quartz vs granite vs marble countertops.

Frequently asked questions

How much do marble countertops cost in Toronto?

Five companies publish figures between about $50 and $250 per square foot installed, and the practical middle is $90 to $150. Better Marble puts Carrara, the entry point, at $90 to $110 installed. Stone Wizards prices its mid-range Statuario, Crema Marfil and Emperador tier from $120 to $150 and its premium tier from $150. Toronto General Contractors says most Toronto kitchen projects land in the lower half of its 100 to 250 CAD span. A typical Toronto kitchen with 30 to 40 square feet of counter totals $3,500 to $8,000 at Stone Wizards. Add 13 percent HST.

Is Carrara or Calacatta cheaper in the GTA?

Carrara is the cheapest natural marble in Toronto. Better Marble calls it the most affordable marble it sells and starts it at $90 to $110 per square foot installed. Stone Wizards prices its premium and exotic tier, which is where Calacatta and Statuario sit, from $150 per square foot with no published ceiling, and Better Marble's own table tops out at $250. On a 35 square foot kitchen that is roughly $3,150 to $3,850 in Carrara against $5,250 or more in the premium tier.

How much cheaper is marble-look quartz than real marble in Toronto?

Quartz is quoted at $45 to $180 per square foot installed at Stone Wizards, with most of its Select projects landing between $45 and $95, while its marble starts at $90 and its premium marble at $150. Better Marble's comparison table puts quartz at $80 to $180 against marble at $90 to $250. On a 35 square foot kitchen that is roughly $1,575 to $3,325 in quartz against $3,150 to $8,750 in marble. Quartz also never needs sealing, so you avoid the $100 to $200 per application marble costs at least once a year.

How often does marble need sealing in an Ontario kitchen, and what does it cost?

Suppliers disagree, and the gap is large. Better Marble says every 6 to 12 months at $100 to $200 per application. Deslaurier, in Ontario, calls every 3 months a good rule of thumb because marble is porous and sealing keeps moisture out. Tec Corp Stone makes the more useful point that sealing does not solve the main problem at all: neither a polished nor a honed finish prevents etching. Plan on at least one $100 to $200 sealing per year and test with water; if a droplet darkens the stone within a few minutes, it is time.

Will marble etch and stain in a real kitchen?

Yes, and no sealer stops it. Tec Corp Stone states that neither polished nor honed marble prevents etching, staining or scratching, and that when acidic foods or unsuitable cleaners react with the stone the affected area loses reflectivity and appears dull beside the rest of the surface. Deslaurier names lemon juice and vinegar as the everyday culprits. A honed finish hides light etching better than polished, which is why it is easier to live with. Toronto suppliers sell dedicated anti-etch treatments, such as the MORE AntiEtch product carried by MarbleTop Shop, precisely because ordinary sealers do not address it.

Why do Toronto marble quotes vary so much between fabricators?

Because the headline rate covers different things. Better Marble splits its Toronto pricing into slab at $60 to $250 per square foot, fabrication at $10 to $40 per linear foot, installation at $50 to $100 per square foot, sink cut-outs at $150 to $300 each, old countertop removal at $125 to $250, and upgraded edges at included or $10 to $30 per foot. Book-matching or a large island can force a second slab, and Toronto condo installs add elevator booking and carry costs. Compare itemized written quotes, and confirm whether HST is included.

Questions to ask your installer

  • Honed or polished, and which will hide etching better for how I cook?
  • Can I see the actual slabs, and can the island be book-matched?
  • What does your warranty say about etching and staining?
  • Which sealer do you use, and how often should it be reapplied? Sealing and maintenance costs
